Artist in Residence : Ted Coney

  • Haddenham Arts Centre 20 High Street Haddenham, cb6 3xa England (map)

Ted Coney is Artist in Residence at Haddenham Arts Centre from Saturday 21st May – Saturday 28th May. (inclusive)

He will be working near the cafe in a pop-up studio on his latest oil painting ‘Dreamtime’, which is about  a  nightmare he experienced, being trapped in a Victorian puppet theatre and trying to escape. As the dream occurred during the pandemic he interpreted it as trying to flee Lockdown.

Ted has been making paintings with the theme of family for over 50 years and he included his wife and youngest son in this painting too! As Ted usually paints objects rather than people he showed his family as puppets on this occasion.

One of them, Peter the Pup, was made during the first world war in a prisoner of war camp so seemed a good symbol for imprisonment and possible escape. He went onto appear beside Muffin the Mule on T.V. during the early 1950s when Ted was growing up.

Ted will also be displaying preliminary canvases for this painting and previous ones. Some are for sale at very reasonable prices. www.tedconeysfamilyportraits.co.uk
