Nesting Barn Owl in Acrylic Inks and Soft Pastels with Jane Fellows

Participants to bring their own materials (Pastel paper and gesso will be provided).

Learn to create the craggy textures of woodland trees and the soft down of a beautiful barn owl in soft pastels. In this workshop pastel artist, Jane Fellows will encourage you to experiment with gesso and a pallet knife to produce the gnarled textures of mature tree bark. Have fun highlighting textures using acrylic inks which will seep into the cracks and crevices creating a vibrant underpainting to which you will add a final layer of pastels.

Learn to manipulate the pastels in subtle ways to create a nesting barn owl to complete your painting.

Materials List for participants:
A good selection of soft pastels in various colours including lots of colours we see in nature/woodland. Black and white too.
The better quality pastels contain more pigment and will produce the best results.
I recommend Rembrandt, Sennelier, Unison, Faber Castell.
Some pastel pencils if you have them. I use Caran d’ache and Faber Castell.
