In this creative printmaking workshop you will learn the basics of creating simple monotypes (individual unique prints) using a gelli plate, brayer/roller and acrylic paints. Suitable for beginners and for those wanting to extend their skills and confidence. No drawing skills are necessary for this process or workshop. Just your imagination!

You will be using this simple printmaking process to create a number of small and medium sized landscape artworks that simply suggest a sense of place, whether it be sea and sky, mountains or fields and trees, in day or at night, in sunshine or rain.

The gelli plate lends itself to creative play and experimentation and it is this relaxed and spontaneous approach that often leads to the happiest and most unexpected results. You will discover the prints themselves often ’tell you’ how they want to be used!

9.50 Coffee/Tea and Biscuits, 10.00 Prompt Start 13.00 Lunch Break 15.45 Finish

We will begin with an introduction to tools and techniques and a demonstration to give you an overview of the potential creative fun and flexibility of the gelli plate. I will have plenty of examples on hand for reference and inspiration.

We will discuss colour combinations and colour confidence, how to mix paint colours, and how to create different patterns and textures on different papers.

Building on your skills you will learn how to make and use your own simple hand cut or torn stencils and how to layer and print different colours to build a single image. I will help you recognise the potential of combining elements from one of more prints, using collage to create a single 'Imagined Landscape'.

We will also discuss mounting and framing your work. How to create your own painted and distressed frame to complement your artwork.

All materials and equipment are provided. Please Note: The workshop price does not include equipment to take home. It does include plenty of paper and paint, one to one tuition and a relaxed and fun environment.

Please bring an apron and don’t wear precious clothes …just in case!

*Karen will have a solo exhibition in the gallery at Haddenham Arts Centre at the time of this workshop and throughout July.
