Suggested list of materials and equipment

Paints - Winsor and Newton Cotman watercolours in tubes or pans. The following are a good basic selection.

Cadmium yellow, lemon yellow, Cadmium red, alizarin crimson, phalo blue, French ultramarine blue.

Paper:

Good quality paper is important. A heavy weight of 140lb (300gsm) is recommended. This won't buckle when wet.

Daler Rowney Langton watercolour paper can be bought in big sheets and cut to the size required, or bought as pads. You want the NOT surface or cold pressed (CP). This still has some texture which works well for most subjects. Daler Rowney Aquafine paper is another option. Available from Hobbycraft.

Brushes:

A basic set like this:

A larger wash brush such as this will make large washes easier.
